Friends of Leelanau Township Library will host a Strawberry Brunch in memory of Suzanne Landes on Saturday, June 28 at Trinity Church in Northport.
Landes joined the Friends over 26 years ago and served as an officer for 16 years. She served as the fourth president of the group for nine years; vice president for seven years and a committee chair for an additional 10 years. Landes started the annual Strawberry Brunch and prepared the food that was served for eight years. Sixteen years ago, she initiated the group’s first Robert Burns Night and made her famous tipsy laird dessert every year. Under her leadership the library became a 501c3 organization; celebrated the Friends’ 50th anniversary in 2012; added the children’s Clifford Book giveaway to the annual Northport Dog Parade participation and instituted the sale of Read to Me note cards as a fundraiser.
Landes died March 15 and her obituary stated she “was committed to the world around her.”
