Leelanau Township unanimously approved for the group known as SWAT! (Save Woolsey Airport Terminal) to seek bids for a first phase project on waterproofing and other repairs for Woolsey Airport Terminal. The board took action and voted at it's regular meeting on June 10. The group aims to have a potential construction contract approved and awarded by August.
The recommended project repairs would be scheduled after the Northport Lions Club Pancake Fly-In & Drive-In breakfast, which is set for this year on Saturday, Aug. 2. The initial waterproofing repairs would be funded using the township’s airport restoration contribution of up to $100,000, as well as funds already raised by SWAT! totaling more than $34,000.
The scope of the project would include: A ditch cleanout; foundation drain/foundation pointing and parge coat; regrade to slope ground away from building; interior and exterior repairs of the concrete roof structure; new waterproof coating on the flat roof; standing seam metal roof on the arched roof; clear penetrating sealer on the rotunda parapet; replacement of the current flat roof guardrail with a guardrail complying with current safety standards, if budget allows for it.
