To the editor:
I attended the June 10th Board of Commissioner’s meeting because I had some questions regarding the conflict of interest concerns and the administrator. I left the meeting with more questions and concerns than when I went into the meeting. Why would a county (administrator) pursue and outside board position, knowing it would create controversy? If he was confident that it wouldn’t be an issue, why did he consult two board members for permission and not the whole board? Also, why did the chair decide to consult an attorney without informing the entire board? Ontopof itall, whydid some board members feel compelled to chastise those in the audience who had legitimate questions? My take-a-way from this experience is that there are some lack of character issues that need to be dealt with before we can move forward and not repeat the poor decision making that we are paying the price for today.
On a bright note, I’m pleased with the passing of Commissioner Will Bunek’s proposal to move the excess money in the early childhood budget to opportunities that will actually have a direct impact on the needs of children at risk. Well done!
