Disloyal

To the editor:

June 14 was designated “No Kings Day” (what Americans call the 4th of July) at 1,800 locations around the U.S., including Glen Arbor, Traverse City, and Suttons Bay, implying that President Trump has made himself “King of America.” If that was true, then why didn’t the “King” simply issue a royal proclamation forbidding such demonstrations? Any autocrat or dictator worthy of the name would have done so. Perhaps what really took place was a display of hurt feelings, a collective temper tantrum by sore losers who didn’t get their way on November 5, 2024. People angry at rejection and vindictive because they no longer have their fingers on the levers of political power nor control who doles out the public tax “plunder.” (as Bastiat might have put it). Was it not a repudiation of the concept of democracy itself? Wasn’t Trump duly and democratically elected by a majority of Americans and given a mandate to invoke his America First agenda? Unlike his predecessor, he “takes care” to see that all laws are faithfully executed, despite lazy ex-lawyers in black robes constantly interfering in his Article 2 plenary powers/ ministerial duties in violation of the principle of separation of powers. The losers of an election were once called the “loyal opposition,” but today that term no longer applies. Today they are the DISLOYAL opposition and it is a shameful thing which, in my opinion, is the real reason this country, and county, are so divided. Curt Raftshol Suttons Bay
