‘Smile’ program detailed for board

Dental care in children can set the course of their future.

So county commissioners learned Tuesday at their regular monthly meeting.

Jen Kern, registered dental hygienist and adjunct professor at the University of Michigan Dental School, and Suttons Bay resident Deon Vaughn, United Way of Northwest Michigan, appeared at the request of the board, which is interested in United We Smile (UWS), a collaborative effort by the organizations, providing free dental care to youngsters from a 10-county area in northwest Michigan.
