Beryl Days 2025 is set to be three days of “rip-roaring” joy hosted by Sleeping Bear Surf and Kayak (SBSK) in Empire. The event honors the legacy of Beryl Lewis Skrocki, the co-founder of SBSK who passed away in 2022. The family friendly festival will celebrate the vibrant surf culture of the Great Lakes and be a weekend filled with community spirit and heartfelt tributes to Beryl’s enduring influence.

Sleeping Bear Surf and Kayak was founded in 2004 by Beryl and her husband, Frank, which turned out to be the first full service surf shop in the state of Michigan and has played a pivotal role in shaping the local surf scene.

“[Beryl] has always been the face behind the business and really poured her heart into it,” said current owner and daughter of Beryl and Frank, Ella Skrocki. “The impetus for Beryl Days was actually the 20 year anniversary and we were like how better a way to celebrate our 20 year anniversary than with this honoring of mom.”
