LEELANAU HISTORY

5 YEARS AGO June 25, 2020

The relationship of social media to ongoing racial and political tensions throughout the U.S. in recent months came to the fore in Leelanau County this week. A 24-year old African-American man from Flint is claiming that he was “profiled” and pulled over on M-22 near Peshawbestown by a Tribal Police officer last weekend on the pretext that his car’s exhaust was too loud. He was then arrested and hauled off to the Leelanau County jail. *** The Village of Northport could be on the hook for up to $25,750 due to the way it handled issuing a land-use permit to a business in the village. At a regular meeting of Northport Village Council via Zoom in May, council received copy of an invoice from Ken and Kelley Radeke, owners of Around the Corner Food & Fun in Northport, who are seeking reimbursement for the charges incurred during a perceived protracted process in acquiring the land-use permit for their Northport business.
