Lake Leelanau resident Scott Earl became motivated to start long-distance bike riding after his cousin passed away a few years ago. Now, the local plumber trains for the annual “Tour Da Yoop, eh.”
“This is only my third year of riding long distance ... I had a cousin pass away, and he was a big bike rider that I would ride with,” Earl said. “I thought that it would be nice to ride in the U.P. along Lake Michigan and Lake Superior, and it is virtually impossible to figure out rides.” “I punched in rides in the U.P. (on the computer), and the tour came up; I looked at it and thought that it looked like fun.”
Earl was born and raised in Lake Leelanau, where he lives with his wife, Maureen.
