Car and bike crash causes death

Leelanau County Sheriff Deputies were dispatched to the TART Trail crossing on S. Center Hey, north of Donner Road for a report of a vehicle and bicyclist accident Sunday at 5:55 pm.

A 2020 Chevrolet pickup pulling a boat trailer was traveling north on South Center Hwy.

A bicyclist traveling east on the TART Trail failed to properly negotiate the intersection and entered the roadway causing the collision, according to Leelanau County Sheriffs Department.   

The Bicyclist later died at Munson Medical Center as a result of the crash.

The vehicle was driven by a 38 year-old Suttons Bay women and the bicyclist has been identified as Daniel Michael O’Brien II of Trenton, MI.

The accident remains under investigation with the assistance of the Michigan State Police.  The Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by members of the Suttons Bay / Bingham Fire and Rescue Department and the Grand Traverse Band Police Department.
