Buster’s Ice Cream opened for the season this week in downtown Northport, welcoming visitors and locals alike for some cool, sweet treats amid the summer heat.
Located in the building of the former ice cream shop, “The Big Dipper,” new business owners’ Andrew and Becca Haubert officially secured a lease and got the keys to the place just this month. Although it’s been a quick turnaround, Andrew said he and his family are excited to be in town pursuing their latest venture.
“It felt right and was exciting. I definitely wanted to get it open in time for the Fourth of July and that weekend, so it’s been kind of a hustle ever since,” Andrew said. “We’ve been coming to the Traverse City area, Suttons Bay, Leelanau peninsula for the last six years. My wife and I and now our kids come up every summer, so we really love the area… This has been kind of a dream for awhile that I put off and now I’m going after it and chasing a dream of opening up an ice cream shop and continuing to hopefully open more in the future. So I’m just really excited to serve Northport and to be up north here.”
