Busy holiday weekend planned

From Empire to Cathead Point, Greilickville to Good Harbor, Leelanau will be decked out in red, white and blue to mark the 249th anniversary of American independence.

Sure, we’ve got fireworks and parades, but there are other, more poignant observations that truly make Leelanau unique.

• An old fashioned hymn sing — Every July 3, Immanuel Lutheran Church in Leland has organized at Patriotic Hymn Sing at 8 p.m. at the Village Green. Music directors Mark and Kathryn Peters bring voices together for traditional patriotic songs like “You’re a Grand Old Flag” and hymns like “Let there be Peace on Earth.”
