LEELANAU HISTORY

5 YEARS AGO July 9, 2020

A Leelanau Township couple’s fight to preserve their shoreline could have implications for all Great Lakes water front property owners as their consultant has disputed the State of Michigan’s representation of where its authority begins. Ron and Betsy Mallek have owned waterfront property on Northport Point Road in Leelanau Township since 1976. They were there for record high Lake Michigan water levels in 1986. They watched a 100 feet of their beach front disappear over the years as new record high water levels were set earlier this year. *** Scott Craig gets a chuckle out of stories generated on the Leelanau Peninsula that he wants to share. Craig, a retired television producer who previously wrote “The Story Next Door” about the extraordinary lives of people who live in the area, has turned his attention to humor. His new book is titled, “Laughing In Leelanau, or I

Swear It’s True.”
