To the editor:
Last week my family and I were able to attended the Glen Arbor 4th of July parade for the first time. We were excited to see a local parade that was not nearly as chaotic as the cherry festival. I was discouraged, though, to see one group in the parade that used this event as a political mouthpiece. They were holding an upside-down American flag to express their dissatisfaction with the Trump administration. I believe in free speech and their freedom to express it, however, the purpose of a 4th of July parade is to express our gratitude for the freedoms that we as Americans hold. It should not be used to express our disdain for our president, nor should it be used as an event for a pro-Trump group. Rather we should be spending this time to be grateful for the freedoms we have rather than complain about an administration.
