Notice to Leelanau County drivers, its Cherry harvest season. That means that it is necessary to have significantly more farm equipment on Leelanau County roadways. Please realize that not all farm equipment is equipped with turn signals. We use hand signals for turning, like bikes do. We use turn signals when available. We use flashers to signify slow moving equipment.
Drivers, please pay attention! Our crew is frequently passed while signaling a left-hand turn. Many times, as they approach an intersection they are passed without regard to oncoming or turning traffic. There can sometimes be several cars following equipment, then one of those drivers will decide they can’t wait any longer and they proceed to pass, not knowing what the vehicles ahead are signaling. There are close calls and accidents on a regular basis.
