The Traverse City Junior Golf Association held a 10-yearold and under golf tournament where golfers from the area came to compete through a nine hole course at Northport Creek Monday.
“We’re so lucky for Leelanau County courses to open their doors and host us,” said Todd Hursey, executive director of TCJGA. “Northport Creek and Chris McCann have been doing it for a while and the kids had a blast.”
The junior golf association had their first season in 1984 and since then have had over 2,500 golfers compete and learn the game of golf. It has had several kids develop into great golfers over the years, such as recent Glen Lake graduate Michael Houtteman, who is going to Air Force for golf. Other recent notable names are Josh Lavely, who plays at Villanova, and Shea Harmeson, who plays at Kansas State.
