The community of Empire will host its annual Anchor Day celebration this weekend.
Anchor Day commemorates the raising of a large anchor from Lake Michigan in July 1977. The anchor was discovered by Doug Manning and Michelle Stryker while canoeing. It was subsequently raised with the help of many village volunteers and placed at the south side of Empire Beach.
The Empire Area Community Center has organized the event spread across two days — Friday and Saturday.
