Two county natives will mark 50 years of marriage next month.

Gerard “Gary” and Betty Lou (Hamel) Pleva were married Aug. 30, 1975 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Muskegon. The Rev. Leo Rosloniec officiated.

Gary, a graduate of St. Mary School, Lake Leelanau, met Betty Lou on July 26, 1970 when her parents were building their summer cottage in Centerville Township. Betty Lou’s mother, Marie Hamel (formerly Peplinski) grew up on French Road and was one of 12 children of Bernard and Lucy Peplinski.
