Over the next month members of the Cleveland Township Board will be considering the implementation of a PILOT housing program for the township.
“This tool is really to encourage development around housing in your community using PILOT or ‘payment in lieu of taxes,’” explained Yarrow Brown, executive director of Housing North, a regional nonprofit focused on housing.
This program would entail property owners making payments to the township government instead of property taxes. Nonprofit and for-profit developers alike would be able to participate and would not pass on the taxes to their tenants allowing for lower cost units.
