Refocus needed

To the editor:

Leelanau County’s Administrator James Dyer, continues to blur the lines between his responsibilities to the County and his own outside activities. At the July 8 Board of Commissioners meeting, Mr. Dyer declared a “housing crisis” claimed unilateral authority over housing policy, and dismissed the role of the Commissioners and department heads by saying, “It’s my call.”

While housing is a real challenge — especially in a seasonal, tourism-based economy like ours — it is not a mandated county function. Many government-led housing in Michigan efforts have failed. Private and communitybased approaches are far more effective and appropriate.
