Leelanau County is known for its beaches, trails, booze, and old people.
And we aren’t getting any younger, as 42% of the peninsula is over the age of 60, representing the oldest county in the region and state, according to the Area Agency on Aging in Northwest Michigan and Leelanau County Senior Services.
“Seniors are facing real and increasing challenges,” Leelanau County Senior Services Director Lena VanderMeulen said during an executive session last week. “Check on your neighbors and help us be a voice for awareness.”
