LEELANAU HISTORY

5 YEARS AGO July 23, 2020

To say that senior leadership and management at the Leelanau County Road Commission is in a “state of flux” may be a generous understatement. The Road Commission has been without a Managing Director since April when Justin Kelenske, who served in position for less than a year, abruptly resigned. At this week’s twice-monthly Road Commission meeting, the commission’s finance manager for the past 18 years, Joe Nedow, abruptly resigned without stating a reason. He informed commissioners he’ll be gone in two or three weeks. *** The Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians will have a new Tribal Chairman and three new members of the Tribal Council if unofficial results of a tribal election Tuesday are certified and remain unchallenged. A threeterm member of the Tribal Council, David Michael Arroyo, has unseated incumbent Tribal Chairman Thurlow “Sam” McClellan. Arroyo won by a double-digit margin, earning more than 55% of the vote while

McClellan earned nearly 45%.
