The July Omena Women’s Club (OWC) meeting was held at two downtown Omena establishments. They started at V Gallery, where owners Matt and Hillary Voight greeted them. Matt gave an interesting talk about the gallery, which just opened last year in the location occupied by Tamarack Gallery for decades. There was an impromptu talk by OWC member Karol Kimmerly Berwald, who lived in that building after her parents moved here and bought the original Anderson General Store, renaming it Kimmerly’s. OWC members then had the opportunity to spend time in the gallery, which is full of wonderful works in many media. Matt had explained that all of their artists are local to northern Michigan, and many even closer to home. The age of the artists ranges from the youngest one in their 20’ to the senior contributor, in her 90’s and still active. It is definitely worth stopping in to see the gallery. The OWC members then went next door to the Omena Historical Society for refreshments and a short business meeting.
This year’s Plein Air Wet Paint Show is a great one. The reception on Saturday night featured 165 paintings that had been done at scenic and memorable spots around Leelanau Township on Friday and Saturday. Congratulations to the many Northport Arts Association (NAA) volunteers who helped make it happen. The exhibit runs through this Saturday from noon to 4 each day at the Village Arts Building in Northport, and is definitely worth a visit.
Mark your calendars for the next exhibit of the summer, “The Originals: NAA Founders Showcase”. It will be an exhibit of the works of the NAA founding members, and the Opening Reception is Saturday, August 23 from 4 – 7 p.m.
