Parents of county newborns will soon have more help to keep their precious cargo safe.
The county Board of Commissioners voted 7-0 last week to amend its contact with the Benzie-Leelanau District Health Department, to allow Parenting Communities to provide car seats at no charge to parents.
The move comes one month after the board approved a proposal to provide prenatal care for women using revenue from the county’s Early Childhood millage. Other possible uses discussed by the board include childcare vouchers for working parents and dental care through United We Smile, a service affiliated with the University of Michigan focus providing services free of charge for on children, pregnant women, veterans, and those with developmental or cognitive disabilities.
