Overlooking Glen Lake sits the Faust Log Cabin on Inspiration Point, and thanks to Preserve Historic Sleeping Bear, the cabin will be preserved.
“It was built by a Chicago couple in 1929 and it’s a pretty unique cabin, there is no utilities, no insulation, but the wife lived here as much as nine months of the year,” said Curtis Fahlberg, project committee chair for Preserve Historic Sleeping Bear. “Flash forward to today and we’re starting with window restoration, we’re maintaining the existing color palette.”
The restoration project includes the 75 window sashes on the building, the garage, and the pumphouse. The process of doing so is removing the glass, scraping all the paint off, taking the glazing out, sanding everything down so there is no original paint. Once this is complete, it’s time to prime with linseed oil based primer that comes from Sweden.
