The Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians (GTB) announced Monday the distribution of $706,758.54 of gaming revenue allocation to local units of government. Of that total, approximately $181,855.84 will go to agencies and programs in Leelanau County.
The tribal council voted to determine which organizations would receive allocations for this 2% cycle, awarding funds to 39 applicants as part of GTB’s 2% allocation process which takes place twice a year. Of the 63 applications received totaling $1,930,320.32 in requests, the tribal council awarded the 39 applicants a total of $706,758.54.
Under the terms of a consent decree settling Tribes v. Engler, the GTB allocates 2% of its video gaming revenue to local units of government no later than 60 days after October 1 and March 31 of each year. The payment schedule was modified with the consent of the State of Michigan to July 31 and January 31 of each year because the fiscal year of the GTB’s gaming operation is calendarbased.
