Little Leagues finish in style

Little Leagues finish in style
Lake Leelanau (blue) and Empire (green) little league baseball teams battled for the championship season. Empire won the final game.

As summer starts coming to an end, so do the summer youth sports, such as baseball and softball, that keep them busy.

There were five divisions in the Leelanau County Youth League, including two softball divisions and three baseball divisions. The PeeWee division, for ages seven to nine, was won by Suttons Bay. Suttons Bay won eight out of their nine games, which were against teams from Maple City, Empire, Cedar, Lake Leelanau, and two teams from Leland. Maple City finished one game behind Suttons Bay and one game ahead of Empire.

The Colt, ages 10 to 12, was won by an undefeated Empire team, winning all eight of their games. Lake Leelanau finished in second, playing nine games but finishing with seven wins, and Maple City (Lee) finished with five wins in eight games. The other teams in the league include Leland, Suttons Bay, another Maple City (Morgan) team, and Cedar.
