The Northport Lions Club held its annual Fly-In, Drive-In pancake breakfast on Saturday at Woolsey Memorial Airport. Lions Club members estimated that this year’s attendance surpassed last year’s total of around 1,500 people.
Hank DeYoung, Northport Lions Club treasurer, said it’s their biggest fundraiser of the year and they make around $7,000 in profit from the event. He said the group will be distributing close to $20,000 in funds this year to both local and national charities/organizations. In addition to selling hot dogs this past Fourth of July, the club will also be out fundraising and selling hotdogs at the annual Northport Dog Parade this weekend and at Leelanau Uncaged next month.
“We try real hard to help people in the community and we try to stay in the county… We have plenty of needs here,” DeYoung said on Saturday. “So I’m really proud of the fact that we’re finally going to get to $20,000 (through fundraising).”
