The Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians (GTB) released a statement via social media to its tribal members Monday that all tribal public facilities would temporarily close, explaining that it was done “out of an abundance of caution and with the safety of our community as our top priority.”
“This action was taken in response to an imminent threat to a few key staff members, and while we understand the inconvenience this may cause, the protection of our people must take priority,” the statement from tribal leadership read. “Law enforcement and tribal officials are actively assessing the situation, and we will provide updates as soon as more information becomes available.”
The message on Monday outlined that “essential services, the GTB Clinic, Tribal Police, and ETM services would continue to operate at their physical locations,” however, other GTB governmental services would be staffed remotely where possible and that emergency contacts remain available for urgent needs.
