Summer vacations rare for reporter

The world twirled off its axis last week. It was the first time in more than 30 years that I took off consecutive vacation days during the month of July. The last time I had done this was while on maternity leave with son, Tim. July 1992 was among the coldest summer weather on record.

Like most businesses in northern Michigan, the local newspaper is a very busy place during the summer. So, it’s just been easier to take vacation during our “shoulder” season, despite of the fact that summer the best time of year in the Land of Delight.

So, what could make me want to take time off?
