Free concert series offers musical entertainment for all
Every Friday from 7-9 p.m. in the summer at Northport Marina Park, hundreds gather for Music in the Park. Held at the Kent Holton Pavillion — which was named in honor of Holton’s work as the longtime sound technician — both residents and visitors alike come out to appreciate the free concert series open to anyone looking for something fun to do on a Friday evening.
Music in the Park has been held since 1986 and has only grown in popularity, attendance, and in its musical offerings since then. Organized and paid for by the Northport Performing Arts Center (NPAC) which receives generous donations from sponsors and donors, people can always expect great musical performances from various local and sometimes out-of-state artists/groups. The bands usually get to the location and set up between 4-6 p.m., but Music in the Park attendees often get there earlier in the day to get a good spot for the show. With the concert being free, people just have to worry about bringing their own snacks and chairs, or they can purchase food at a local food truck/stand stationed at the park.
