The Old Art Building Plein Air Painters 25th Anniversary Retrospective Exhibit will feature the works of artists who have participated in the Old Art Building Plein Air Painters group and/or Painting on Location since its founding by Ellie Golden in 2000. The exhibit will be open daily 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. from Wed., August 20, to Sun., Aug. 24. It will be free and open to the public.
This is an extra special year for our OAB Plein Air Painters group as it marks its 25th anniversary. Founded by local artist Ellie Golden in 2000, the program was originally called “Painting on Location.” Ellie found joy in plein air painting and was especially fond of landscapes. In 2015, when the group marked its 15th anniversary with an Ellie Golden Retrospective, Ellie was still at the helm and going strong at 92 years old. She passed in 2021 at the age of 97, but her love of painting lives on in this beloved program.
Now led by artist Martha Elchert, this year’s group comprises 30 artists and will paint at 19 locations in and around Leelanau County weekly through September. Their unframed artwork will be available for sale on Wednesday, August 20, at the Old Art Building’s 5th Annual Clothesline Arts Show on the front lawn of the OAB from 1 to 4 p.m.
