Democracy

To the editor:

We have been heartened by the last four Saturday’s pop-up protests in Suttons Bay, part of a larger effort in the county (and the country) to give residents the opportunity to exercise their first amendment rights. The signs have been witty and inspiring, the neighbors committed, the enthusiasm genuine. The response has been overwhelmingly positive, a sign of real community.

We want to thank our thoughtful county commissioners, our governor, out state representatives and Senators for their leadership in recognizing that the constitution is still a touchstone for our democratic republic. Resist. Persist. Insist.
