In a 7-0 vote, the Leelanau County Board of Commissioners adopted a “Resolution to Condemn Racism in Leelanau County” at its regular monthly meeting Tuesday night. Adoption of the resolution was prompted by racist remarks made in public earlier this month by Leelanau County Road Commissioner Tom Eckerle. At this week’s meeting, the county board also voted 7-0 to formally accept Eckerle’s resignation. *** Viking Cruises has approached the Village of Suttons Bay to propose that a cruise ship routinely anchor in Suttons Bay and bring as many as 380 guests ashore beginning with the summer 2022 cruise season. A Viking Cruises executive, Nicolai Skogland, sent an email to Village Manager Rob Larrea and explained that the cruise line had planned port calls to Traverse City, “however, the Board of the Discovery Center (in Greilickville) made a decision in March to restrict use of their pier for cruise ships.”
