Northport’s signature footrace, the Bay to Braman Bolt, is back for its sixth running on Saturday, August 30. The 1.1mile course begins at the marina, winds through downtown, follows the Nagonaba Footpath, and finishes atop Braman Hill— one of Leelanau’s highest points.
This year’s race carries extra anticipation as Quinton Buss, the reigning two-time champion and Northport native, will return to defend his title against challengers from across the region. Adding to the excitement, the Bolt has been newly welcomed into the Traverse City Track Club’s Grand Prix Circuit, meaning TCTC members can earn points toward their season standings by competing in Northport.
Founded in 2018, the Bolt raises funds for the Northport Museum. Proceeds support New Missions: Leelanau Twp & The ’88 Wildcats, a forthcoming documentary weaving together township history with the story of Northport’s 1988 state championship basketball season. Since its inception, the race has donated over $8,000.
