To the editor:
Brian Freiberger’s article on wildfire smoke cited Jack Bergman’s letter to Canada complaining about the lack of Canada’s forest management program. I saw the entire letter in a mailing to me and I was dumbfounded at the Congressman’s ignorance, or perhaps his assumption that we are ignorant.
Here are some facts: Canada’s area is larger than the continental U.S.: 3,511,023 sq. miles vs. our 3,119,884. Canada’s population is 41 million vs. our 340 million. 90% of Canada’s population lives within 150 miles of the U.S.border. Inotherwords, Canada’s wilderness area is vastly greater than ours and its population is a small fraction of ours. Yet Bergman arrogantly demands impossible Canadian “forest management” to prevent wildfires.
