Leelanau Montessori Public School Academy begins the 2025-26 school year with a new 8-year charter with Bay Mills Community College, a tribal university in the Upper Peninsula.

One-hundred-ten students are expected to return to classrooms at the Lake Leelanau School which have been improved over the summer. Preschool spaces are still available.

“Our five classrooms each underwent kitchenette upgrades, an important attribute in a Montessori classroom, thanks to a grant from the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians,” Head of School Arden Wilson said. “Our outdoor campus improvements include new landscaping at the Health Department entryway, installing a quiet garden and the start of “The Pathway to Learning Garden” in honor of loved ones who have passed away.
