The 120 students anticipated at Northport Public School this fall will also be introduced to a few new staff members, among other additions, this year.

Three new teachers will join the Northport staff, including: Fourth grade teacher Annabelle Fortine, secondary English class teacher Eric Wynn, and music teacher Hannah Smith.

Curriculum-wise, the district re-adopted its Core Knowledge Language Arts (CKLA) curriculum for its elementary school students. Northport Superintendent Neil Wetherbee said the school used CKLA curriculum, which provides comprehensive materials to teach reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills, exclusively about seven years ago, but the district eventually stepped away from utilizing it. Wetherbee said a new version of CKLA came out in time for the district to evaluate its elementary language arts curriculum though, and they chose to go back to it utilizing the newest updated version. In addition to the CKLA curriculum, a new AP environmental science course taught by science teacher Susan Sobehrad will be offered at the high school.
