With the U.S. electorate seemingly more polarized than ever this election year, it’s no surprise to some that political campaign signs are increasingly being vandalized or stolen. Unfortunately, that trend is evident in Leelanau County. “We have received quite a few complaints about stolen campaign signs over the last few weeks and, no, they haven’t been limited to one candidate or party over another,” said Matt Ansorge, director of the county’s 911 Emergency Dispatch center. *** Despite — or because of — the coronavirus pandemic, tourism and home sales in Leelanau County are setting records. New marks were set in July for monthly attendance at Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore and for home sales in the county. The developments point to a booming economy in two of Leelanau’s three main industries, the other being agriculture.
