Summer wraps with bridge walk

Summer is on the way out, but it hasn’t been a bad summer as they go. Not much changes in a resort area in the summer. The retailers make most of their year and lodging stays full for a few weeks. Then slowly but surely reality shows up. I think the reality is why most of us live here.

Every one living here at that time remembers. It was a Sunday night, August 2, 2015 and a lot of “visitors” had arrived one or two days earlier. Many were in town getting supplies or just seeing the town and the “Big Wind” hit. Glen Arbor was surrounded by trees and debris, the visitors and many residents were unable to get back, as the three roads out of Glen Arbor were blocked. It was tough for visitors and really very frightening for many, unable to get back to a camp site or cottage and no cell phone for a while. It was a tough time, but the citizens of Glen Arbor stepped up. The Township Hall was opened and cots were made available for those needing them and restaurants, such as Blu brought food and we made gallons of coffee. We had power so one of the busiest needs were outlets to charge cell phones. We survived and came back better than ever to welcome hundreds of visitors.

Speaking of hundreds, the Cedar Polka Fest was, as always, a cast of thousands I am sure. My polka days are past, but I am certain it was as big as always. Good music and really good food.
