To the editor:
I am writing to address some misinformation in the letter to the editor from Tim McCalley, “Give taxpayers a break,” in the August 21, 2025, issue. In his letter, Mr. McCalley alleges that “$800,000 (was) given to Suttons Bay School to keep it out of bankruptcy.” This is false, and there is no basis for such a statement. For several years, Suttons Bay Public Schools (SBPS) has maintained a general fund balance of roughly 15% of its annual budget in alignment with the recommendation from the Michigan School Business Officials. SBPS is fiscally sound, contrary and without relevance to Mr. McCalley’s letter.
