To the editor:
I congratulate and commend Inland Seas Education Association on its recently announced plans to invest more than $11 million in Suttons Bay. ISEA plans to completely renovate the Millside building, which over the years has greatly deteriorated. ISEA plans to turn an eyesore building into a beautiful education center for ISEA’s Great Lakes educational programs. It will be connected on a park-like campus to the existing ISEA building, overlooking Suttons Bay and connected to the TART Trail.
The expanded ISEA campus will be an asset to the greater community, far beyond enabling ISEA to expand its year-round STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) offerings to students of all ages. ISEA has grown exponentially in the past decade, necessitating it to purchase a second schooner – the SV Alliance – to join the SV Inland Seas, to meet the demand from schools throughout Michigan and beyond. Now, ISEA is also investing in a larger, more modern education center that will be a showpiece in Suttons Bay.
