Over the summer, Glen Lake Community Schools has had a busy construction season, with updates to prepare for the upcoming school year, as well as updates to specific policies, as students begin to walk the halls.
“We had a full boiler replacement for heating,” said Jason Misner, superintendent at Glen Lake. “It includes a complete remodel of the 200 hallway, that’s flooring, ceiling, heating, and cooling, so a complete refresh of the 200 wings in our building.”
Glen Lake’s first day is Tuesday, Sept. 2, with an 11:30 a.m. dismissal. Classes start promptly at 8:10 a.m., and late arrivals must check into the office to obtain a late pass. Lunch is free for all students. Picture day is scheduled for September 12 in the elementary school and September 13 for the secondary school.
Misner, who recently secured an extension as superintendent, will be entering his fourth year with the school.
It is estimated there will be 400 students in the elementary levels, 185 in middle school, and 240 in high school. Misner stated that the school is expecting a total enrollment of 825, which has been a goal for the school to work towards over the past three years, according to Glen Lake School Board President Cory McNitt.
“We are excited to welcome students back on September 2 for the 2025-
2026 school year. This is always an exciting time for children, families
and the community we serve,” Glen Lake Superintendent Jason Misner said in a newsletter.
“When students return to the Glen Lake Community Schools building, many will be greeted with a completely updated building.
This summer has been a full summer of construction that was focused on the 200 (middle school) wing of the building. This is the oldest section of the building and was heated from a steam boiler system. The HVAC units in this wing needed to be replaced to be able to run off our new hot water boiler system. One of the steam boilers was removed this spring and was replaced by new, energy efficient hot water boilers that will supply our entire building.
This summer’s work was funded primarily through the school’s general fund as part of our long-term facilities planning.
The recent bond issue that passed will support the remainder of the building’s HVAC improvements over the next two summers. The general fund also paid for roof replacement of the building’s oldest sections this summer. All students will also enjoy new flooring and paint in the Auditeria when they return from summer break.
Over the past two years, the district has addressed many pressing facility needs with our general fund dollars.”
Some of the enhancements include:
• New door entry configurations for
enhanced safety and security
• Septic System and Drain Field
replacement and relocation
• New, energy efficient exterior window
replacement.
“We are thankful for the community’s support of our school and facility needs to ensure we provide the best learning environment for our students. We look forward to a great school year filled with opportunity and continued growth. Thank you for your continued trust, support and partnership,” Misner said.
