Omena marks 12th annual bridge walk

It was perfect weather on Labor Day for the 12th Annual Omena Labor Day Bridge Walk. Fifty people, plus two members of Omena’s Village Council were in attendance. Porsche McKee, Omena’s feline Deputy Vice Mayor, represented the village’s elected officials. Former Mayor and current Council member, Rosie Disch was also there for her seventh Bridge Walk. Interestingly, then Vice Mayor Shimmer Disch was at the first Omena Bridge Walk in 2013.

Hosts John and Lee Putnam took the event to a new level this year, turning it into the Bridge Walk Brunch, with fried rice and spring rolls prepared that morning by Lee. Some coffee and donuts also strengthened the walkers for the strenuous walk across Bob’s Brook, also known as Krist Creek.

John made sure the creek was running fast, so the rubber duck races were very exciting. The winner was never announced, so I can’t report on that, but a good time was had by all! Many thanks to Brian Fairbrother for being the photographer of the day.
