Donations for dock replacement sought

The Leland Yacht Club Foundation (LYCF) announced Wednesday it will partner with Leland Township in accepting donations to fund construction of the dock removed last year from the DNR Carp River boating access site between the Bluebird and Riverside Inn. The Foundation Board voted unanimously to facilitate fundraising efforts for the project.

“The Leland Yacht Club Foundation is delighted to help get this important project going! Please consider a generous donation. We are excited to partner with Leland Township to help our very special community,” said Joe Voss LYCF board member.

The DNR removed the previous dock in April 2023, citing concerns with safety and conditions. In April this year, the Leland Township board entered into a long-term lease with the DNR, securing approval to reinstall a permanent dock at the site for both daytime transient docking and the launching of watercraft. The township board voted in July to hire Lakeshore Marine to design the dock and work with Michigan’s Environment, Great Lakes and Energy (EGLE) department for permitting. The township is currently working with the DNR to determine the length of the dock, ADA access points and launch platforms.
