Open houses focus on planned fire station

The Kasson Township Board is exploring the potential for a new fire station in Kasson Township, to be operated by Cedar Area Fire & Rescue (CAFR).

This fire station, proposed to be located west of the intersection of M-72 and Maple City Road, is intended to reduce response times and improve the service level provided to Kasson Township residents, businesses, and visitors.

CAFR, of which Kasson Township is one-quarter owner (pursuant to an Interlocal Agreement with Centerville, Cleveland and Solon Townships), has consistently improved services over the last 10 years, including transitioning to fulltime Advanced Life Support Services with three staff members on duty at all times at the Cedar fire station, including at least one paramedic. CAFR has also worked extensively with its neighboring departments to provide seamless mutual aid services for fire suppression, car accidents and other incidents. However, a service gap has been identified in Kasson Township that cannot be filled through the provision of additional services at the Cedar fire station or through mutual aid. Because of this, the Board has spent the last several years in discussions with neighboring municipalities and government entities regarding the potential construction of a new station, and has been working with an architect, the CAFR Fire Board, and other stakeholders to develop a needs assessment, conceptual drawings, and funding options since mid-2024.
