The Watershed Center Grand Traverse Bay recently installed two educational signs at rain gardens in the Village of Northport thanks to funding from the Leelanau Township Community Foundation. The rain gardens were installed last year using federal grant funding awarded to The Watershed Center in partnership with the Village of Northport. Two rain gardens were installed at the village marina, and another was installed on village right-ofway property at the corner of Waukazoo and Main streets at the “Skye House” bed and breakfast.

“The Leelanau Township Community Foundation is excited to help fund the rain garden project with The Watershed Center Grand Traverse Bay,” says Beth Stowe, executive director of the foundation.

It is important for the public to know about water quality issues and solutions to stormwater management, as well as gain a better understanding of natural processes that help protect water quality.
