Childhood cancer research at risk

Almost every month has become an awareness month and September is no different - Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. Childhood cancer is something that has deeply affected my family through my cousin, along with millions worldwide.

In September, companies and individuals show support by donning a gold ribbon and Dance Marathon clubs associated with the Children’s Miracle Network go into overdrive. I was once one of those crazy dance marathon people shoving a red bucket in your face on campus asking for donations “FTK!” (for the kids).

This year, that light of hope and support for struggling children that usually shines so bright feels just a bit dimmer. Recent developments in Washington and at the state level have put critical cancer research at risk with massive amounts of funding pulled or on the chopping block.
