Board recommends hiring freeze

A temporary hiring freeze has been supported by county commissioners.

The board voted 5-2, with commissioners Will Bunek and Alan Campbell opposed, for a “strategic pause” in spending during budget preparations.

“Given the uncertainty about state and federal funding, I think we should put (hirings) on pause,” District 1 Commissioner Rick Robbins said. “It’s less than 90 days… we should sit back and see what money we have before there are any hirings.”
