Before contemporary Christian music had a name, and long before worship music filled arenas and topped streaming charts, there was Nancy Honeytree. A soft spoken folk singer with a guitar, a deep love for Jesus, and a voice that helped define a movement.
Honeytree performed at the Leelanau Community Church (LCC) earlier this month. In a packed sanctuary she performed some of her best known songs such as her opener, “It’s Only Right,” and spoke in between songs telling stories and giving words of wisdom.
Her long friendship with the Rev. Lucy Schaub is what brings her to the shores of Leelanau.
