Empire Hops Festival returns; Hill Climb draws hundreds
One of several crashes into the banks of Wilco Road happened during the curvy time-trialed drag race.

Over 1,000 car enthusiasts descended upon Wilco Road for the Dave’s Garage Empire Hill Climb Saturday. Results are available online.

From one event to the next, as the Empire Hops & Harvest Festival is ready to return Saturday, Sept. 20, marking the first revival of the local festival since 2019.

There will be plenty of food, fun, and libations. Front Street will be closed from noon to 6 p.m. for a celebration that has been five years in the making.

This is the first event since 2019, as it began in 2014, due to the growth of the hops industry in the area, which has since dissipated.

Eventually, the festival would partner with the Cedar Polka Fest Foundation for additional help in putting on the event, especially when it comes to relaunching it.

Enjoy MI craft beverages from Right Brain Brewery, North Peak Brewery, Stormcloud Brewery, Upperhand Brewery, Bell’s Brewery, Blake’s Hard Ciders, and Bel Lago Winery.

Live music performances from Andre Villoch, A to Z Music, and 5th GEAR Band. Tickets are available for sale online ($12) and at the event ($15).

Craig Olvey, owner of Dave's Garage in Empire, was the chief sponsor of this year's event that drew over a 1,000 people. Craig's older son, Caden, competes in the race yearly.
